Food Distribution #1

The SMSC is partnering with the CAP Agency and Second Harvest Heartland to divert food from being thrown away. We will host a food distribution event for the public to pick up food; drive-through style.

Volunteers will help sort and bag food from 10 am – 3 pm.

The distribution (when the public can start coming thru the line) will be from 3pm – 6 pm or until gone, whichever happens first.

Shifts:

  • 10 am -12 pm (20 people)
  • 12 pm – 2 pm (20 people)
  • 2 pm – 4 pm (20 people)
  • 4 pm – 6 pm (20 people)

Transportation/Parking:

  • Volunteers can take the shuttle.
  • Park in the lot between Playworks and The Meadows maintenance building. This is a better location if you are not staying the whole day.

Event Expectations:
Volunteers will be sorting and bagging food items, and then distributing them from 3-6pm to the public drive-through. Standing and outdoors throughout entire event. Volunteers on the last shift will need to help clean up.

Safety:
Gloves will be provided. Box cutters are utilized, these are sharp; do not leave them laying around or set down with the razer exposed. If broken, turn into a captain.

Food and Beverage:
Food, snacks, and water will be provided. Please let us know if you have any food restrictions.

Attire:

  • Red #SMSCgives T-shirt
  • Comfortable shoes
  • Wear clothing you are ok getting dirty
  • Optional: your own gloves

Submitting outreach hours:

  1. Once you have registered for an event on the SMSCGIVES page, go to the UKG app/website.
  2. Go into Workforce Management, and click on “Time-Off Request,” as you would for PTO.
  3. Select your event date and shift time. Then, in the “deduct from” menu, select “Outreach.”
  4. Verify hours submitted and wait for manager’s approval.
  5. Failure to submit a request in UKG will result in un-paid participation hours.

You signed up for an event – now what?

  1. Once you sign up, you will receive a confirmation email. Make note of the email you registered with. All communications will be sent to that email only!
  2. Make note of the event’s time, location, and the shift you signed up for.
  3. Prior to the event, you will receive a reminder notification.
  4. If you are no longer able to attend the event, please cancel your sign up or contact the event captain.
  5. At the event location, find the #SMSCgives check-in table and be sure to check in with the event captains. You’ll receive instructions from them once the event begins.
  6. Please note that not all event locations have a time clock available. Please work with your reporting manager to ensure outreach hours are logged.

Red #SMSCGives shirts can be picked up at three locations:

  • T-shirts will be available at all SMSCGives events. (Sizes limited)
  • Community Center: Email smscgives@shakopeedakota.org to schedule a pickup.
  • Team Member Entrance Security Desk: Make sure you state you are picking up a RED SMSCGIVES SHIRT. Contact security dispatch at 952.496.7222 if any issues arise. Please note that shirts have been moved around during construction and are now stored in a locker that Security must access.
